A lot of scenes that I make in a last time need some kind of rope. After looking through the internet I didn’t find anything simple and good looking so I decided to make it on my own. After a few hours of trying and failing this is my final result. I am pretty happy about it. After you make it few times you will have knowledge to make any possible rope in 1 or 2 minutes.
Create a circle and go to edit mode, duplicate it to times, to get something like a triangle.
Select inner vertices (please be aware of ones that are not selected in image below, because you will get different results if you select all of them)
Delete previously selected vertices
Merge all “inner” vertices that survived deleting process.
While in edit mode, select all vertices and move them in the way to get yellow dot in the middle of white circle. (Another method is to move cursor to the center of mass)
After adding screw modifier and increasing screw parameter to 10 you will get something like you see in the image below. If needed you can add subsurface subdivison modifier to make it look more realistic.
