A show with one of the best intros I’ve ever seen. Right of the bat, the entire 80s hit you so hard that you don’t know what happened to you. It has everything from corporate intrigue, personal rivalry, clashing visions, and historic technological developments. After watching pilot episode, I was hooked so much that I bought all 3 seasons and waited for a free weekend to watch it all in one sitting.
Believe me, I watched entire season of Game of Thrones in one day but for this time I am talking about series which I am still watching almost every day. Halt and catch fire present every aspect of tech industry in that time. A lot of folks work themselves to death for something new, something different or some new technology.
Story of show
If you find yourself inventing some product and then finding out what it is for, you are working in tech industry. And this is one of the things that Joe MacMillan (Lee Pace) will teach you. He shocks at every point and tears things down, builds them up randomly. I think they have a visionary person kind of captured with his character. Joe is charming but ruthless and in every meaning he is a force of nature.
His partner in crime is Gordon Clark (Scoot McNairy) which is very clever but depressed engineer. He present man who is stuck in a job which he doesn’t like, but still doing it because of his family. For him, Joe is some kind of savior who know how to make things out of nothing. Clark and Cameron Howe (Mackenzie Davis) are hyped to work with Joe but that relationship gives them more trouble than anything…
Watching it again
This show took all my free time (and I hate this) for more than a week. I watched all episodes a couple of times and thinking to do that again. Without any regret whatsoever.
After reading all of theories for Season 4 I decided not to guess anything, just wait for first episode. It will be great if this show truly present tech industry which is always changing and going in unpredictable ways. But for now, only thing that I can do, is to wait.
