Draining your batteries every day because of work but seeing very little concrete evidence of time that you are spending can be really frustrating. Simple solution to this problem can’t be found in some book. But, looking from my experience I usually spend money from my work on some things that I don’t really need. It is not that hard to go in shopping mall right after getting your money on plastic card and spend good amount of it on random things.
2 months ago I started using monefy app for tracking my money. The result was pretty surprising to me. While looking at results on the phone I didn’t believe myself, I spend more than a 75% of my budget on eating out and shopping. That is clearly very bad decision that costs me a lot of bucks. After spending some nights looking for solution to this problem I came up with few of them.
Stop boredom eating
Changing McDonalds cheeseburger for something healthy can improve health and save few bucks. It is easy to store some fruits in a fridge for moments of boredom. Screen time typically raises the chance for boredom eating. However, Netflix time does not have to be excuse for calling fast food. It is easy to replace jumbo pizza with traditional snacks which are actually healthy and cheap (popcorn/mixed nuts).
A bit more of cooking at home
This will not only improve my health but it will also improve finances! Eating meals at home will cut food budget dramatically. If I prepare healthy meal for my self at home it is like 5-6 dollars per meal, to get exact same meal at some restaurant I need to spend double or triple.
Most importantly in this way I can choose size of a meal for lunch or dinner. Here in Croatia prices are same for lunches and dinners, and there is no any differences between sizes of meal. For some of you this can be a little bit weird because I know that a lot of American and British restaurants have different sizes for different time of a day. This is some kind of double win for me, I reduce spending and getting control about sizes of portions.
Not rich enough to buy cheap things
This piece of spending “pie” is not that hard to control. To be honest, I have a big problem buying a lot of things on e-bay (Amazon pays big shipping costs for Croatia right now). It is not like I buy to much of them, it is like buying a lot of things which don’t work in the first place. I spend so much money buying T-shirts, shoes and gadgets which broke almost the same day when I got them in mail box. As you can guess, I need to pay for the same thing one more time and that is my friend losing money!
Living in small town is great place to reduce “public transport” costs. A lot of time I call Uber or taxi just because I am lazy to go home walking. Again, this is double win, it is healthy and will save some money for more important things.
Do you have some more ideas for saving money? If you do, tell me in comments I will gladly read about them!
A show with one of the best intros I’ve ever seen. Right of the bat, the entire 80s hit you so hard that you don’t know what happened to you. It has everything from corporate intrigue, personal rivalry, clashing visions, and historic technological developments. After watching pilot episode, I was hooked so much that I bought all 3 seasons and waited for a free weekend to watch it all in one sitting.
Believe me, I watched entire season of Game of Thrones in one day but for this time I am talking about series which I am still watching almost every day. Halt and catch fire present every aspect of tech industry in that time. A lot of folks work themselves to death for something new, something different or some new technology. (more…)
Most valuable resource that you have is ticking on your watch while you are eating cereals, doing dishes, enjoying sport game or having business conversation. Our time on this planet is limited and probably we are not aware of it at all. If you look at old books you will probably find an old adage “you can’t manage what you can’t measure” and it stands true today more than ever before. And, speaking of today, at 21. century it is easiest thing to waste. (more…)
The difference between doing things fast/spontaneously and doing them calm/on schedule can be seen on every object that I make. Whenever I start making something right after watching youtube video, or while I am studying for my college degree I get bad looking model which is probably not only bed looking but also very bad modeled. From my experience I found helpful to make 15 minute break before I start making anything. So, these are my habits before opening Blender.
Make some coffee
Lately, I am not some big fan of coffee. But one Nescafe can be great distraction from anything what you have been doing before you start thinking of modeling. It is fast and easy to make, I can “brew” one in only 2-3 minutes and usually the smell of it gives me even more motivation to do things in the right way. Knowing that I have cup of hot beverage on my desk is just great.
Clean your desk
Whatever I am doing before modeling needs to go away. I like to have clean and well lighted desk in front of me. Sometimes it is harder to clean my desk than to animate some model, especially because I use to eat on it (I know… Not very great habit). Monitor, speakers, keyboard, pen and notebook are only things that I need when modeling, nothing less nothing more.
Turn up some music
This is one of these things that are must have. Some background noise can motivate me and it usually helps to lose sense of time. Lately, Parov Stelar is the one of the artist that I am listening while modeling. Good rhythm and great bass lines gives me a lot of fun. If you didn’t heard for him until now, my honest recommendation.
When I start modeling almost 5 years ago I just modeled everything from my head, and after a year or two I decided to buy grid notebook to sketch everything in it. I can check all scales to see does everything look good, and if I need to model something tomorrow or next week I can write notes to not lose my thoughts until then. It is timesaving device which will make your models look better almost instantly. Usually you will need more time to sketch something then 15 minutes but it is time well consumed.
That is it folks. This is how I spend 15 minutes before starting to model. As you can see this works pretty well for me, so if you have some of your habits that you want to share with me, feel free to leave a comment. I will be very happy to respond.
Every year, I make list of challenges to do in time in front of me, a lot of them finish in a trash can in corner of my apartment, but, you know, some of them like starting youtube channel and blog come to life. I don’t want to show the list of my 2016. resolutions because there is no need to lie, I failed a lot of them, so I decided to write a list for 2017. on my web to get a little more enthusiasm for making all of them. As you probably know, I am not a native English speaker so a lot of my wishes is pointed in direction to learn new languages and of course to improve my English.
